Farscape: Throne for a Loss

September 7, 2013 in Farscape by Firebird

Rygel borrows a valuable crystal essential to Moya’s survival, hoping to impress Tavlek Traders interested in business. However, the Tavleks’ real business is holding important hostages for ransom, and they kidnap Rygel and the crystal. Crichton and the others obtain a powerful gauntlet weapon from a captured Tavlek to aid their rescue of Rygel, but they find that using the Tavleks’ weaponry is almost as deadly as the Tavleks themselves.

Full synopsis

The episode opens with a shuttle arriving and the crew bickering but when their visitors open fire they quickly pull together.

The Tavlek are really very, very ugly.

I love the dialogue on this show.

“That’s your plan? Wile E. Coyote would come up with a better plan than that!”

And the fact that someone went to the trouble of painting all that foliage.

I couldn’t help feeling a little bit sorry for Rygel, imprisoned in mud and telling his fellow prisoner that the others all hate him.

Rygel in mud

Of course since he’s ‘borrowed’ a rather important part of Moya they had no choice but to go get him.

What I’ve always liked about Farscape is how it dared to be different and the fact that almost all the actors in it are Australian gives it a unique sound, unlike all the US and UK shows I’ve watched over the years. Even the incidental music is different.
